Dear Reader,
The Holocaust is one of the most traumatic events to have ever occurred in history. I was interested in digging deeper into the stories of the survivors as well as examining the aftermath and effects of this tragedy on later generations. Prior to this project, I mostly learned only the major facts, like statistics and general details about the war.
Since the Holocaust is well-documented and researched, I have had the chance to learn a great deal about the events and actors. My general knowledge has been expanded, and I now have a more in-depth, broader overview of the topic.
In beginning my research, I decided to focus on several basic questions related to the aftermath of the war. Specifically, I sought to learn how the Holocaust affected literature, the arts, and how those involved were punished.
I used primarily online sources. However, while I was doing my project, I found it was helpful to review a few pieces of literature about the Holocaust. For example, I revisited the novel Night by Elie Wiesel, which I read my freshman year.
By researching the aftermath of the Holocaust, I learned the effects it had and continues to have on the world. I never knew it had such a profound effect on the artwork and literature. Lastly, I also was able to learn more concerning how the Nazi party members were punished.
My research might not make a huge contribution to the body of literature on the effects and aftermath of the Holocaust, but I learned a great deal. Digging into such a horrible part of history really made me realize how fortunate I am to enjoy the lifestyle and freedoms that I do. I do not have to worry about dying any moment, being separated from my family, or not having enough food to eat as the victims of the Holocaust did. I hope my project makes you appreciate your life just a little more!
Sincerely,
Caroline Ham
